Dear Visitor,

The building of the Museum of Local History in Orfû is a real curio that can be found in the Mecsekrákos area of the village. It happens only rarely that a building complex that can be seen here is a peasant house with a porch and uniaxial with a church.

The patron saint of our church is Saint Martin of whom a fresco can be seen on the inner wall of the church.

The Church is a stop in the Saint Martin European Cultural Route.

The building is the property of the Catholic Church and the Orfû Local Government.

In the Museum of Local History there is an exhibition of the Mecsek-Ridge area by the Ethnographic Department of the Directory of the Baranya County Museums.

The Museum of Local History is lead by folk artist-craftsman Ákos Serényi.

Besides the exhibition different programs help us make the Museum of Local History more lively. These programs have called the Museum of Local History into being, and we have begun to explore, renew, and transmit our traditions. To get acquainted with our bigger programs click on programs.

The material of the Museum of Local History is constantly being developed because of the collecting of it.

I kindly ask those who have any museum pieces of the Mecsek-Ridge area, and are committed to ethnography, and are willing and able to do so to offer them to the Museum of Local History in Orfû.

The Museum of Local History is in the same yard with the Oven Courtyard where different types of ovens of the country’s regions and the utensils of traditional cooking can be seen. There is a daily cooking demonstration as well.

In every season we organize an open-air exhibition of some of our objects going out of mind, and in the topic of old folk gastronomy.

You may visit the Museum of Local History, the Oven Courtyard, the permanent exhibition of the wood-carver and master of folk arts László Serényi, and the open-air exhibition at the same place.

Our Museum of Local History is open only seasonally from 1st May until the first weekend of September.
